Hub
Well Drilling was founded by Oran Johnson in 1918 under the title O.S.
Johnson Well Drilling. The beginnings saw Oran running a small horse
drawn machine providing water to various members of the community.
After serving with the Royal Canadian Navy in World War 2 Oran's son
Ivan became involved with the business in 1945.
After
taking over the business in 1950 Ivan changed the company's name to Hub
Well Drilling to reflect Truro's central position in Nova Scotia. Over
the years Ivan acquired several cable tool drilling rigs that improved
capacity and service time considerably. In June of 1974 the firm
purchased its first rotary drilling rig and Ivan's son Greg became
heavily involved with the firm.
Greg took over the operations after Ivan's death in 1986 and has since
expanded the company's operations drastically. Hub Well Drilling
constructed an office and service facility at its current site on the
Salmon River road in 1993 and now operates two large rotary rigs, one
cable tool rig, and a pump/well repair service vehicle.
Greg’s sons Brian and Mitchell currently work in all segments on the drilling business.
